When she isn’t in the salon, you’ll find Kim tending her garden, hiking, kayaking, or out at local music shows around town.Īveda, sold exclusively at Changes, is equally committed to the individual’s natural beauty and that of the planet. Kim is always happy to share her knowledge of Ithaca’s “nooks and crannies” with those that are new in town. Her clientele range from Cornell PhD students and IC theater students, to long-time locals, but her doors are open to all. With Changes, Kim has created a relaxed environment that is focused on cuts and color and overall healthy hair. As a singer herself, who has toured with local favorite Johnny Dowd, and with two boys that are active in Ithaca’s local music scene, Kim has a great appreciation for all things artistic. Lenny was a big supporter of local artists and Kim continues this tradition by displaying local artwork, and playing local music, at Changes. Kim continues her professional development with Aveda Current Trends classes in Geneva and New York City. Kenny continued to mentor Kim until 1990 when he transferred ownership of Changes to her. An Ithaca native, Kim began her training with Changes’ previous owner, Lenny Randall, who used Kim to hold his clients’ hair while he cut. Kim Sherwood Caso has been cutting and styling hair for over twenty-five years. You get the chance to have a personal exchange with your hairdresser. At Changes, you get more than a ready-made, cookie-cutter style. With forty-five minute, to one-hour appointments, and colors lasting one to two hours, this is a place to relax and appreciate the floor-to-ceiling windows, rotating exhibits on the walls, music, and conversation.Ĭhanges attracts to its intimate space a diverse clientele, from high school students to Cornell and Ithaca College faculty, local farmworkers and musicians as well as elected officials and technology and business people. The environment Kim and her staff have created is laid-back and funky, yet professional. Run originally by Lenny Randall, the business has been in the hands of Kim Sherwood Caso since 1991, during which time Changes has become a fixture of Ithaca’s business community.Ĭhanges was conceived as a place to celebrate and support local music and art.
